Chugge Khan
Rajasthan Josh, led and directed by Chugge Khan, is a collective of Manganiyar musicians from Jaisalmer and surrounding villages; Sufi Muslims whose songs are devoted to both Allah and Hindu gods.
Formed in 2009, the group makes music filled with rhythmic, hypnotic instrumental sounds, woven with ecstatic voices. It is grounded in the traditions of the Manganiyars: a previously nomadic caste of artists and musicians whose ancestors for centuries have traversed the desert of Northwest India, performing for the Mughal rulers and Rajput princes as well as at weddings, births and feasts.
